This conference invites a reflection on the role of food within the domestic space
throughout history and in contemporary times. The central focus is the kitchen,
conceived not as an isolated room but as a space where food is prepared and,
occasionally, consumed, stored, and disposed of. The social, cultural, and gender
dimensions associated with these practices and their impact on architectural
space are of great importance, as is the influence of mechanization and alternative
conceptualizations of integrating these functions with other household activities.
