Join Victoria Lautman for SAH/SCC's “20 (More…) Years of SPRAWL: Author, Historian, and Critic Robert Bruegmann” on Saturday, April 19 that 11 am at the Neutra Office in Silver Lake and virtually via Zoom.
When SPRAWL: A Compact History appeared in 2005, reviews ricocheted between glowing and apoplectic. Bruegmann – an award winning historian and author who spent years exploring the assumption that sprawl is bad economically, socially, ecologically, and aesthetically - basically debunked those accepted stereotypes.
Now, an updated SPRAWL is on the horizon incorporating developments of the past two decades, and Bruegmann will reveal his current, possibly controversial thoughts on that topic, along with other projects and interests.
Robert Bruegmann is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Art History, Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and has taught at MIT, Columbia University, and the Philadelphia College of Art. He’s published numerous architecture books including The Architecture of Harry Weese, A Guide to 150 Years of Chicago Architecture, and Art Deco Chicago, along with dozens of articles, catalogs, reviews, and essays. Roman Ivory, his first novel, appeared last year.
