The Architecture subject group in Leeds School of Arts is looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to its PhD programme to support research investigating queer subjects and issues in architecture.

Architecture has a long and complex history with regards to sexual minorities and there exists currently a vibrant burgeoning field of queer theoretical engagements with the discipline. Whether it be a question of interiors, urban spaces, or architectural representations, bringing the notion of the queer to bear on architectural histories, theories, and practices provides a rich direction of research and study.

The successful candidate will work with Dr Marko Jobst as supervisor, be involved in organising research symposia on queer topics in architecture, and produce original research.

The supervisor is particularly interested in opening up discussions on intersectional themes and topics, and hearing from applicants who are interested in global and cross-cultural issues and practices. Within the UK, applicants are encouraged to consider (but not confined to) regional and non-metropolitan environments and case studies.

This is an opportunity to undertake original, groundbreaking research work within a thriving creative arts environment. As a PhD candidate you will be part of a vibrant team within Leeds School of Arts, joining a growing research community with interests across creative arts practice. Our research profile can be viewed on the LARC webpage. Projects that investigate broader issues relating to equality, diversity and inclusion are particularly encouraged.
