The 2025 Architecture & Film Symposium will be hosted by Kent State University and the Cleveland Cinematheque on October 23-25, 2025.
The abstract submission deadline is February 17, and full papers or short films will be due June 9. Accepted papers will be published in the peer-reviewed proceedings.
"Of Affect" invites paper proposals and experimental (short) film/video submissions on a wide range of topics in architecture and film, such as:
o Bodies, genders, and affect o Ambient images and other post-linguistic paradigms o Motions and emotions o Atmospheres of color, light, and/or sound o Artificial (affective) intelligences o Sense and cinesthesia: post-phenomenological perceptions o Urban and post-urban ambiences o Affective utopias, dystopias, and/or heterotopias o Empathy and other inter-subjective engagements o Decolonizing the senses o Screen-based reflections on surface finishes o Magic hour: the beauty (and horror) of shadows o Animating affect o Science fictions and other speculative fabulations o Realisms: dirty and/or speculative o Synthetic landscapes
