The selection committee welcomes posters that feature projects making research resources available and useful to other scholars. They especially encourage projects that make visual or textual resources available to others and spark scholarly exchange, elicit peer input, and engage colleagues as users or possibly even collaborators. This poster session is targeted toward works in progress, rather than more traditional presentations of scholarly analysis, so that poster-presenters may offer other members a chance to learn about undertakings currently in development and benefit from the high visibility that is unique to the SAH Annual International Conference. Previously presented work is not eligible.

Submissions may be theoretical, methodological, thematic, interdisciplinary, pedagogical, revisionist or documentary in premise and have broadly conceived or more narrowly focused subjects. Submissions that embrace cross-cultural and transnational topics are particularly welcome. Topics related to historic preservation and cultural heritage as related to architecture are also encouraged. Topics exploring the architecture of Atlanta and the architecture of the southeastern United States are encouraged. In every case, the subject should be clearly defined in critical and historical terms.

Poster submissions on architecture and race, architecture of the American South, architecture and urbanism in Atlanta, urban segregation, histories of agency and disturbance, architecture and accountability, history of gentrification, urban development, architecture and coloniality, and health and architecture are encouraged.

The Society also seeks submissions that further the goals of the SAH IDEAS Initiative: Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accountability, and Sustainability. We are thus seeking submissions that explore the intersection of architecture and social justice, inclusion and exclusion, diversity, transparency, accessibility, borders and conflicts, systemic inequalities, and challenges of method.

Although many eligible projects may be digital in nature, this year they will be represented by a print poster. (Future iterations may allow monitors, projection, or live demonstration.) The posters will be on display in the Exhibit Area beginning Wednesday, April 30, at 7:00 p.m. The “Projects in Progress” poster session will take place on Friday, May 2, 3:30–5:40 p.m. and will include a Q&A/discussion with presenters.

To submit your “Projects in Progress” poster proposal, submit a one-to-two-paragraph description of the project, identifying its creators and organizational sponsors, website links, if any, and the name of one or two presenters who will attend the conference in person to ckirbabas@sah.org by Wednesday, January 15, 2025. Please mark the subject line of the email “SAH Poster Session Proposal.”

A committee will review the proposals and will notify all submitters regarding the status of their submission by Tuesday, February 11, 2025. At that time, we’ll communicate about the size for the posters.

Conference Registration and current SAH membership are required to present research at the Annual International Conference, thus non-members who are selected will be required to join SAH and register for the conference in order to participate.

Poster Presenters are expected to fund their own travel and related expenses to participate in the conference.
