The University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Architecture and Community Development is conducting a call for entries for the 29th edition of Dichotomy.

Echo begins from within. The hidden whispers reverberate and shape the inner voice. Echo ventures outward, discovering the hidden and unknown. Echo shares new perspectives, reflections, and messages in a continual reshaping of the past that is carried into the future. Echo’s return is an abstraction standing in place of the original call, a memory transformed, interpreted, and reimagined. Dichotomy 29 explores the intersection and overlapping of multiple perspectives, and how our actions echo the voices of others. It invites designers, creative thinkers and activists to question past visions of the present, and to project and critique imagined futures. The call of Echo is for anyone willing to listen and open to receive.

Submissions to ECHO ends on March 1st, 2025.

Final articles may be in a wide variety of forms, including projects, scholarly papers, photo essays, poetry or interviews.

Timeline:

  • 500 word abstract and imagery due on March 1st, 2025

  • Notification sent in May with final full manuscript submissions due early September, 2025.

  • Accepted full articles will be published in Spring of 2026.

Dichotomy, a student-led journal at the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Architecture and Community Development (SACD), strives to be a critical link between students and the discourses on design, architecture, urbanism, and community development. Established in 1978, Dichotomy focuses on social justice and critical thought concerning intellectual, spiritual, ethical, and social development both in and outside of Detroit, with the goal of disseminating relevant investigations conducted by professionals, faculty, and students.
