Join SAH/SCC as we welcome author Keith York to talk about his research on master Modernist Craig Ellwood (1922-1992). York recently published Craig Ellwood: Furniture and will follow up in the coming months with Craig Ellwood: Remembering The Thin Man and Craig Ellwood: Life is a Bottomless Barrel, rounding out an intriguing trilogy, all published by Modern San Diego. Ellwood, of course, is best known for his work featured in The Case Study House Program.
Following his restoration of Ellwood’s Bobertz Residence (1953), York and his family have embarked on restoring the personal residence of Frank Lloyd Wright apprentice Sim Bruce Richards.York documents San Diego’s Modernist architectural heritage online via modernsandiego.com, as well as publishes, curates, and produces public forums on the topic.
York curated the exhibitions Frank Lloyd Wright’s Legacy in San Diego: The Taliesin Apprentices (2015), Julius Shulman: Modern La Jolla (2019), and Julius Shulman: Modern San Diego (2019) prior to publishing a monograph and curating its accompanying exhibition, The Sensuous Environment: Sim Bruce Richards, Architect in 2023.
