Jun 26, 2024 by EAHN Newsletter, SAH News

The European Architectural History Network has announced new members of their journal Architectural Histories Editorial Board for 2024-2028, including SAH Members Daniel A. Barber and Gail Dubrow.

EAHN's call for new Editorial Board members launched on April 2nd  and received more than 30 applications from all over the world. After a hard and competitive selection process, EAHN is happy to announce the names of the two new scholars who are joining the editorial board for the 2024-2028 term.

Daniel A. Barber
Professor, TU/Eindhoven

Daniel’s research explores the history and future of architecture’s engagement with the environment. He focuses on connections between design methods and systems of energy management, including passive solar strategies and the global use of shading systems, considering how these methods interact with colonisation and the growth of energy extraction regimes. His current work explores questions of thermal comfort as they relate to the energy demands of mechanical cooling systems, carbon emissions, and architectural explorations of novel forms, technologies and modes of occupation for post-carbon life. Daniel joined SAH in 2008. In 2014, he was awarded the SAH Mellon Author Award. He has served on the Strategic Planning Committee, and the JSAH Editorial Advisory Committee. He was a Session Chair at the 77th Annual International Conference in 2024.

Gail Dubrow
Prof. of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Affairs & Planning, and History
University of Minnesota

Gail is a social historian of the US built environment and cultural landscape whose scholarly and public-facing projects illuminate the experiences, standpoints, and agency of previously overlooked groups. Her next book, Practicing Architecture Under the Bamboo Ceiling, coauthored with Sarah Pawlicki, documents the lives and careers of the earliest architects of Japanese ancestry in America. It draws on extensive collaborations with family and community members to expand the archives from which histories can be written. Gail joined SAH in 2017, and currently serves on the SAH Board and Executive Committee as Treasurer. In 2004, she received the Antoinette Forrester Downing Book Award. She has also served on the Strategic Planning Committee, and the Downing Book Award Committee. She was a speaker at the 2018 and 2019 Annual International conferences, and was elected a Fellow of SAH in 2022.
