Charnley-Persky House Awarded COVID-19 Emergency Relief Grant from Illinois Humanities

The Charnley-Persky House Museum Foundation has received a COVID-19 Emergency Relief Grant from Illinois Humanities. The $2,500 award will help alleviate the financial impact of closing the house to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 130 organizations funded by this round of COVID-10 Relief Grants include small museums, libraries, performing arts venues, and other cultural and community centers. The purpose of these grants is to help humanities organizations throughout the state weather the pandemic.

The Charnley-Persky House has been closed since March 10, 2020, during the peak season for visiting tour groups. Additionally, scheduled event space rentals had to be canceled, along with a fundraiser open house planned for July to celebrate the founding of the Society of Architectural Historians, which is headquartered in the building. The grant will assist with ongoing operating expenses for Charnley-Persky House and repairs to the tour center entrance.

Funds for the relief grants are primarily provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020 and supplemented by donations raised during Illinois Humanities’ May 21st Public Humanities Award event.
