The 2015 SAH International Travel Grant Program will enable historians from underrepresented countries to attend the SAH 68th Annual Conference in Chicago
The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) announces the 2015 SAH International Travel Grant Program, which provides funding to scholars from countries that have traditionally been underrepresented at the SAH Annual Conference to attend the 2015 conference in Chicago. The aim of the new program is to bring international academics, museum professionals and heritage conservationists to the SAH conference and to help them build upon their international professional networks. The program is generously funded by a grant from the Getty Foundation. Applications for the 2015 grants are open online at sah.org/getty-travel-grants.
SAH Executive Director Pauline Saliga said, “We at SAH are delighted to partner with the Getty Foundation on this fellowship program, which provides travel funds for academics from around the world who ordinarily would not be able to participate in the SAH Annual Conference. This program is beneficial both to the scholarly community that focuses on the history of the built environment and to the Society of Architectural Historians, which aspires to provide funding for a diverse group of individuals from communities around the world to attend the SAH Annual Conference.”
SAH will award between 12 and 15 fellowships to practicing historians of the built environment in late 2014 to fund their travel to the Chicago conference in April 2015. The award covers travel expenses to and from the 2015 conference, hotel accommodations, a per diem, conference registration and two years of membership in SAH. Professionals working in a college, university, museum or conservation organization located in a country that has not traditionally been represented at the SAH Annual Conference are eligible to apply. Such areas include, but are not limited to, Asia, Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. SAH membership is not required to apply. Full eligibility requirements are listed online. The application deadline is September 1, 2014.
The 68th SAH Annual Conference takes place April 15-19, 2015, at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza and includes paper sessions, the SAH Chicago Seminar, architecture tours and other events. The Society will celebrate its 75th anniversary during the conference, and we are grateful to the Getty Foundation for providing funding for these fellowships in our anniversary year.
