The symposium's contributions aim to establish an initial map of the collections of models and replicas of Spanish architectural heritage in the collections and archives of museums, academies, schools of architecture and fine arts, as well as their circulation policy through exhibitions and exchange programmes with other European museums and institutions.

Each of the four sessions of the international symposium — 1. Academies, schools, museums and their pedagogies; 2. The city and the territory in dispute; 3. In the public eye: international exhibitions and networks; and 4. Models in time — set a tension between global culture and local context, while encouraging new questions around these. What was the role of these collections in the construction of a national identity? What agents and programmes established a policy of international circulation in museums and exhibitions? In what ways did these objects influence the imaginaries, pedagogies and praxis of architecture from the styles? Finally, it is necessary to consider the manner in which these collections acquire new value in the 21st century as a result of their status as copies and reproductions of architecture in the media.

The symposium, directed by Dr. Arch. Carolina B. García-Estévez and coordinated by the Centro de Estudios del Museo Nacional del Prado, marks the conclusion of the R&D&I project "Map of the collections of models and replicas of Spanish architectural heritage: between national identity and international culture."
